It is already hard enough to sign up on Upwork but it is even harder to land your first job. Have you ever made an account on Upwork and literally spent months and months of consistent effort to land your very first job but failed? Trust me, I’ve been there – and it takes the motivation right out of you. All the freelance success stories seem to be a fad.
I was able to identify one thumb rule that I need to implement in my workflow to land my first job and even keep getting consistent work. Nothing complicated, just one simple rule – just one.

Absorb this idea of working less and gaining more. The idea commonly known as 80/20 rule or the Pareto Principle. Identify what is important and what will bring the most results – and channelise your energy restricting to only those actions which will bring the most results.
But how to implement this rule on Upwork and land your first project?
The practice involves creating an “Ideal Client Persona”. I read about this Ideal Client Persona from Salma Jafri’s Course on Udemy : Marketing for Freelancers. Honestly, I loved it. It helped me revive the idea of doing the freelance work – where I have freedom, healthy pay-cheques and fulfilling work.
